Gilda Cordero-Fernando has nine grandchildren and is a well-known writer and publisher. She pioneered in the publication of books on Philippine cultural history in lively illustrated form, many of which have won prizes. She had herself been awarded nationally for writing and publishing. Last December, Mrs. Fernando picked up a paintbrush and has not put it down.
